An interview with a translator
translator's name : Abdulaati Mutaz ( an Iraqi translator, a member of Iraqi translattors association, and a member of international federation of translators).l
works in many translation offices in Sana'a currently
why did you chose translation to be your job?l
I love languages, and also I love the other countries culture, I have traavelled a lot, and I speak many languages such as English, French, and Spanish, and my major was translation , so I think that my destiny is to be a translator
what are the challenges that a translator might encounter ?l
they are many but the main are: lack of culture backgrounds of other countries, the meaning of some terminologies and abbreviations, and here in Yemen the few demands of translating works
what are the characteristics that a translator should have?l
a translator should be patient, educated, smart, and quick-witted
and also he or she should be able to use computer and internet, and he should practice a lot and consult other professional translators
, he also should develop his cultural backgrounds, and he also should develop his capability in languages
what are the advices you'd like to give to the beginner translators?l
they should keep practicing , and and cocentratting in their skills to be wider and to gain experience, and they should first have the desire of being good translators because translation is a very tough field and exhausting and finally I advise them not to exhaust themselves by translating many papers a day
